About Us
Oxbow is a nonprofit organization located on 230 acres of ecologically diverse forest and farmland bordering the Snoqualmie River in western Washington. The land serves as a living laboratory where we research and practice ecological agricultural methods to improve and protect the ecosystem, grow food and native plants, and educate people of all ages about farming and the environment. Oxbow connects people to the land, to their food, and to the work that we do through a Member program, workshops, tours, school programs, and special events.
Practices
Oxbow supports a healthy food economy by operating a 30-acre farm using sustainable farming practices and maintaining a crop rotation to allow soil to recover and regenerate. We strategically remove fields from their production each year and leave them fallowed in cover crop. Fallowed fields protect the watershed and allow fields to rest and build up nutrients, and manage weeds, pests, and diseases. Our farm supplies produce to local grocery stores, restaurants, and schools, as well as directly to local consumers through a Farm Stand and Member Program. We also supply food to local hunger relief organizations, and facilitate a robust gleaning program to get more produce out of the fields and into local food banks. The farm has been in operation since 1999.
