About Us
Northern Lights Elk Ranch is a 315-acre family-run ranch located in the heart of Alaska, where open pastures and mountain views set the stage for truly local food. Owned and operated by Paul and Meg Cook and their family, the ranch is best known for its pasture-raised turkeys—birds that spend their days foraging on native vegetation, greens, and insects under Alaska’s endless sky. Alongside their turkey operation, the Cooks maintain a small herd of elk and continue to be recognized by conservation groups like the Great Land Trust and The Nature Conservancy for their stewardship of the land and salmon-bearing creeks that flow through their property.
Practices
The Cook family believes in raising animals the way nature intended—on pasture, with fresh air, space to roam, and no shortcuts. Their Broad Breasted White turkeys are pasture raised and free to graze on native forage and bugs, producing rich, flavorful meat that’s juicier and more nutrient-dense than conventionally raised birds. Supplemental feed is locally made, preservative- and antibiotic-free, supporting both animal health and Alaska’s local economy. The ranch’s elk herd, bred through selective genetics, thrives on natural forage across the same well-tended landscape. Every effort—from waterway protection to animal care—is rooted in respect for Alaska’s environment and a commitment to providing clean, local food from their family to yours.
